Scholarships
ACT/Academic Scholarships
Southwest Mississippi Community College awards ACT/ACADEMIC scholarships to qualifying students in the following categories for Fall and Spring semesters. ACT/ACADEMIC scholarships are awarded only for scores earned prior to enrolling in college courses (excluding dual enrollment courses).
- A student with a composite or super composite ACT score of 21 – 24 is eligible for up to $750 scholarship.
- A student with a composite or super composite ACT score of 25 – 28 is eligible for up to $1500 scholarship.
- A student with a composite or super composite ACT score of 29 or higher is eligible for up to $2000 scholarship plus room/board or commuter meal plan.
Should an ACT/ACADEMIC scholarship exceed the actual cost of attending 三亿体育登录, the balance may be credited to the student’s account and they may be used in the college bookstore of applied to student fees.
ALL ACT/ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS ARE SUBJECT TO THE FOLLOWING STUDENT QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must complete the FAFSA application and add 三亿体育登录‘s school code—002436.
- Must be a full-time student
- Must not have a college degree but must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must maintain an overall 3.0 or higher GPA on all college work.
- Must not have attended college more than three full-time semesters
- Must successfully complete at least twelve hours for each semester the scholarship was received
ACT/ACADEMIC scholarships may be renewed up to three subsequent semesters based on eligibility.
Institutional Scholarships
INSTITUTIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS ARE SUBJECT TO THE FOLLOWING STUDENT QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must complete the FAFSA application.
- Must be a full-time student
- Must not have a college degree, unless otherwise specified, but must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must maintain an overall 3.0 or higher GPA on all college work unless otherwise specified
- Must not have attended college more than three full-time semesters unless otherwise specified
- Must successfully complete at least twelve hours for each semester the scholarship was received
Scholarships are awarded by semester subject to specific GPA requirements being met. Students must re-apply each school year.
This application should be submitted to Director of Financial Aid, member of the Scholarship Committee, prior to fall enrollment or prior to spring enrollment. Applicants must also complete the application for Federal Pell Grant at www.fafsa.ed.gov. MTAG applications may be completed at www.riseupms.com. Scholarships will not be considered nor awarded until the FAFSA has been completed and all required documentation has been submitted to the financial aid office.

Performance Scholarships (Band, Cheerleading, Music, Other)
Performance scholarships are given to a select student body who is involved in small singing groups, chorus, band, student publications, and residence life. Please contact the director of the activity you plan to join or participate in to determine how you may apply for scholarships. If institutional scholarships exceed the actual cost of attending 三亿体育登录, the balance may be credited to the student’s account and may be used in the college bookstore, cafeteria, or applied to student fees.
PERFORMANCE SCHOLARSHIPS ARE SUBJECT TO THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must complete the FAFSA application.
- Must be a full-time student or the scholarship will be prorated according to the number of hours enrolled throughout the semester. A part-time student’s scholarship cannot exceed tuition.
- Must maintain a 2.0 cumulative grade point average.

Athletic Scholarships
Athletic scholarships are based on ability and need. Athletic scholarships are available for baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, football, men’s soccer, women’s soccer and women's fast-pitch softball. To remain eligible, the student must complete full-time enrollment (minimum 12 earned credit hours) each semester. Applicants are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Maximum and minimum awards, as well as a minimum GPA, are subject to guidelines established by the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior College (MACJC) and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The deadline for consideration is based on tryout date/signing date for each sport. Contact the Southwest Mississippi Community College head coach for the sport of choice for information.

Note: All scholarship recipients in the above categories, in addition to 三亿体育登录 Foundation, who are also Pell recipients, are subject to the annual maximum cost of attendance budget published in their individual shopping sheet. Students can locate the shopping sheet under their Access Southwest account.
Non-Institutional ‘Outside’ Scholarships and Programs
Southwest Mississippi Community College acknowledges and congratulates students whom receive outside scholarships (AmeriCorps, WIA, Church established scholarships, Career (parents' job) scholarships, etc.). Outside scholarships must be reported to the financial aid office immediately. If a student receives an outside scholarship, payment should be directed to the Business Office, 1156 College Drive, Summit, MS 39666 to be applied to the student's account.
Workforce Innovation and Opportunity ACT (WIOA)
Financial assistance through the Workforce Investment and Opportunity Act (WIOA), a federal grant previously known as the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), may be available for qualified students who are participating in eligible Career-Technical training programs. WIOA is not an entitlement program. Contact your local WIN Job Center for more information.
